Stampin’ Up! Owl Card – Tutorial #566

Hello There,

The chill is in the air here in Ohio for sure.  We are suppose to see single digit temps in the next few days, burrrrrrrr.   This card should warm someone up though, at least their heart, right?

I made 30 of these and the Stampin’ Up! owl punch made quick work of it.   One thing about the owl punch that I don’t show here is that you can really customize your owl.  I’ve seen the owls created with designer paper and they are super cute.  I’m sure there are so many combinations of colors and DSP that you would never get tired of using this little guy.

Winner will be selected on Saturday, January 19, 2013.

Now on with today’s tutorial. . . . .  . .

Project Supplies:

Stampin’ Up! Stamps: Take Care (item #126312) and Netting background stamp (item#122655)

Card Stock: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Tempting Turquoise, Old Olive, Cajun Craze, Cherry Cobbler and Basic Black

Ink: Stampin’ Up! Basic Black, Tempting Turquoise, Lucky Limeade and Cajun Craze

Accessories: Stampin’ Up! sponges, ruler, Stampin’ Up! Owl Builder Punch (item #118074), Piercing tools, Soft Suede and Basic Black markers

Punched the pieces for the owl using the Owl Builder punch.  As you see I am making many of these cards today.   I punched the large circle for the eye and the chest piece using Whisper White card stock, the owl in both Cajun Craze and Lucky Limeade, the medium circle using Basic Black card stock and the heart using Cherry Cobbler card stock.

I wanted a design on the chest piece so I inked up my Netting background stamp and put the chest pieces on it and then put a piece of scrap paper over the stamp and rubbed gentle.   I did half of the pieces using Cajun Craze ink and half of them with Lucky Limeade ink.   I then sponged the edges with the same color they were stamp in.

For the sky, I used the direct to paper technique and quickly smeared the ink with the ink pad directly on the card stock.   The card stock is 3.5″ x 4.5″ Whisper White.  Every background you do with this method will look different.

Stamped the limb using Basic Black ink.

Using a ruler I added the swing seat using a Soft Suede Marker.  I drew it to be 2.75″ wide.

Removed the ruler and made the swing seat a bit thicker with the marker.

added the swing ropes using a ruler and a Basic Black marker.

Sponged Basic Black ink around the edge of the card stock and assembled the owls and adhered them to the card stock.  I tilted the owl on the right so it looks like it is snuggling up with the one on the left.

Added a 3.75″ x 5.25″ piece of Old Olive card stock and then pierced the right and left side of the Old Olive panel.

Added a Tempting Turquoise card base measuring 8.5″ x 5.5″ folded in half.

Here is the finished card.

May your day be spent with someone you love.

Lovely As A Tree Sympathy Card – Stampin’ Up! Tutorial #565

I have a Sympathy Card Tutorial for you today.  I created this for my dear neighbor who lost a loved one this past weekend.   I hope this card brings some comfort to her.

A little about the card, I used direct to paper to create the background for the trees.   Check out the tutorial below.  🙂

Project Supplies:

Stampin’ Up! Stamps: Lovely as a Tree  and Occasions Alphabet

Card Stock: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Old Olive and Not Quite Navy

Ink: Stampin’ Up! Not Quite Navy, River Rock, Always Artichoke, Old Olive, Certainly Celery and So Saffron

Accessories: Stampin’ Up! sponges, Print Poetry Designer Series Paper Stack, Midnight Muse Satin Stitched Ribbon, Summer Smooches Brads, Bigz Tasteful Trim Die, Big Shot Machine and Simply Scored board

It’s best to have your ink pad well inked for the Direct to Paper Technique.

I swiped the So Saffron ink pad directly across the 3 7/8″ x 4.4″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

Smeared the well inked River Rock ink pad on the paper creating mountain shapes.

Stamped the pine tree multiple times at different heights using Always Artichoke ink.

Sponged Certainly Celery ink over the pine trees.

Sponged Old Olive ink over the bottom half of the pine trees.

Tap the Always Artichoke ink pad at the bottom of the card stock.

Die cut a piece of DSP using the Tasteful Trim Die and Big Shot Machine.

Scored the die cut with the Simply Scored tool every 1/4 inch.

Added 2 Not Quite Navy panels (5″ x 6.5″ and 4″ x 4.5″), 2 Old Olive panels (4.75″ x 6.25″ and 4.25″ x 4.75″) and a 4.5″ x 6″ piece of Print Poetry Designer Series Paper Stack.

Put a line of adhesive where I want the Scallop strip to be and then started at the top and folded the piece a bit here and there to get some great texture.

Added Summer Smooches brads and Midnight Muse Satin Stitched Ribbon.

Stamped the Sympathy stamp from the Occasions Alphabet set using Not Quite Navy ink.

Added a Whisper White card base.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

May your day be one of peace and harmony.

On Safari – Tutorial #564

Hey There,

How about we go on a safari today?  Wouldn’t that be nice.  Since we can’t actually travel, we will put it down in color and use this stunning stamp from the Stampin’ Up! Zoo Review set.

The background was quickly put in with the Direct to Paper Technique.

I kept my coloring of the zebra kinda muted.   I wanted the zebra to take on some of the background color so he looks like the light is reflecting on him.  Sometimes that is the hardest thing to do is let some of the background color shine through, but it can be wonderful when you let it happen.

This card has been added to my sales page.  Click here to check it out.

Spring Catalog

****************************************

Now on with today’s tutorial. . . . .  . .

Project Supplies:

Stampin’ Up! Stamps: Zoo Review (item# 122197)

Card Stock: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White and Basic Black

Ink: Stampin’ Up! Basic Black, More Mustard, Not Quite Navy, Baja Breeze, Island Indigo, So Saffron and Soft Suede

Accessories: Stampin’ Up! gold brads, Basic Black and Sahara Sand markers, white gel pen, 1 1/4″ square punch

Started by smearing a Baja Breeze ink pad directly across the top of a 4″ square Whisper White card stock.

Smeared Island Indigo ink at the top of the card stock, not covering the Baja Breeze entirely.

Smeared So Saffron ink across the bottom of the card stock.

Gently smeared a bit of More Mustard over the So Saffron leaving lots of the So Saffron shining through.

Smeared Soft Suede ink at the top and bottom of the ground area.

Stamped the Zebra using Basic Black ink.

Colored the White strips in with a White gel pen.  Leave a little of the background showing through.

Color the dark stripes in using a Sahara Sand marker.

Added Basic Black marker lightly to the dark areas.

Blend the Basic Black just a bit using the Sahara Sand marker.  Be careful not to over work the zebra.

Punched 2, 1 1/4″ squares from Basic Black card stock.   Cut them in half.

Added a 5.25″ square Whisper White card base, 5.25″ square Basic Black panel, 5″ square Whisper White panel and a 4 1/8″ square Basic Black panel.  Also added the triangles and gold brads.

Here is the finished project measuring 5.25″ square.

May your day be filled with warmth.
