Let’s Go Camping – Tutorial #447

If you have an outdoors man or woman for that matter on your card list this card may be for you.
Today’s card is using a large main image panel (4.5″ x 6″) so it doesn’t leave much room for bling. But with a great scene you don’t want bling, right? I know some of you are gasping right now, lol. But really, you don’t want to distract your viewer’s attention with a bunch of bling when you have created a panel this large.

I currently have dough rising. I’m in the process of making homemade Broccoli, cheese and ham calzones so I must get moving. With that being said, let’s get started on today’s tutorial. . . . . . .
Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Loads of Fun, Lovely as A Tree, Season of Friendship and Word Play

Paper: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Old Olive and Basic Black

Ink: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Daffodil Delight, Basic Black, Night of Navy, Old Olive, Not Quite Navy and Cajun Craze

Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Sponges, heat gun, clear embossing powder, brayer, Versamark pad and marker, Markers (Old Olive, So Saffron, Sahara Sand, Bashful Blue and Basic Black), 1 3/4″ circle and 1″ square punches, post it notes, gold brads, White gel pen

Techniques: Brayering, masking

Started with a 4.5″ x 6″ piece of Whisper White card stock. Loaded my Camper stamp with Versamark and then Basic Black ink before I stamped it. Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored the camper in using Bashful Blue, So Saffron, Basic Black and Sahara Sand markers.

Went over the bottom area of the Bashful Blue again using the Bashful Blue marker to create a sense of roundness to the camper. Also colored over the slated bottom of the camper using the Sahara Sand marker again to create a darker tone of that color.

Colored over the entire camper using a Versamark marker and then heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun. This was done to protect the image from future ink applications.

Added a 1 3/4″ circle punch Post it note and a post it note with a hill ripped in it.

Brayered Daffodil Delight ink at the bottom of the unmasked area. Be sure to wipe any ink off of the embossed image using a paper towel any time you go over it with ink.

Brayered Cajun Craze ink at the bottom of the unmasked area, not covering the Daffodil Delight ink entirely.

Brayered Not Quite Navy ink at the top of the card stock.

Brayered Night of Navy ink at at the top of the card stock, not covering the Not Quite Navy ink entirely.

Removed the sun mask and sponged Daffodil Delight ink in the center of it.

Stamped the Lovely As A Tree Pine using Basic Black ink. Stamped the image 3 times.

Stamped the Season of Friendship tree using Basic Black ink. Wiped the ink off of my embossed image.

Stamped the leaves using Old Olive ink.

Added Basic Black ink leaves.

Removed the hill mask and sponged Old Olive ink on it.

Sponged Basic Black ink at the base of the hill.

Added White Gel Pen highlights to the leaves, back of camper, windows and made little strokes with the pen to create grasses.

Toned down the highlighted leave by going over them with an Old Olive marker.

Stamped the Word Play Sentiment using Whisper White ink.

Added a few White Gel pen dots in the sky for stars.

Added an Old Olive Panel, 4 – 1″ Basic Black square punches on the corners of the Old Olive Panel. Added a Basic Black panel and 4 gold brads to the corners of the main image panel.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

Embossed Ocean Commotion – Tutorial #181

When I first layed eyes on this Stampin’ Up Ocean Commotion stamp set I knew I had to get it. Usually the ocean life sets are cartoony and I just don’t do well working with them. But now that we have a set that is more realistic, hmmmm the possibilities are endless for me. I heat embossed every image on this project with clear embossing powder. This is not a quick project, lol. I was happy with the way it turned out, especially since this is my first time using this set. My trial run, so to speak.

Let’s get started.

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Ocean Commotion, Seaside & Baroque Motifs

Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Not Quite Navy & Kiwi Kiss

Ink: Stampin’ Up Not Quite Navy, Baja Breeze, Night of Navy, Kiwi Kiss, Creamy Caramel, Always Artichoke & Close to Cocoa

Accessories: Stampin’ Up markers, White Gel Pen, Faber Castell Black marker, Brayer, Versamark pad and Marker, Post it note, White Ribbon, Brads, Clear embossing powder and a Heat Gun, Piercing Tool

Stamp the seahorse twice by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then the ink before stamping. I stamped them in Creamy Caramel and Baja Breeze ink on a 3.25″ x 5″ piece of Whisper White Card stock.

Heat embossed the seahorses with clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored over the seahorses using a Versamark marker and then heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun. I did this step so I would not lose the white details in the image when I later apply the ink for the background.

Stamped the Baroque Motifs Flourish stamp by first loading the stamp with Versamark and then loading the stamp with Always Artichoke before stamping it. I then heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Stamped the shells by first loading the stamp with Versamark and then Close to Cocoa ink before stamping them. I heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored the shells with a Creamy Caramel marker.

Added Close to Cocoa marker to the shells.

Colored over the shells with a Versamark marker and then heat embossed them using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Stamped the Ocean Commotion Flourish by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then Kiwi Kiss ink before stamping it. Heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Note: When you over stamp an embossed image with another one you don’t have to worry about cleaning off of the first embossed image. The ink will resist and melt right off when you heat the second embossed image. Clear as mud, lol?

Tear a post it note through the stick part and use it as a mask for the ocean floor.

Brayer on Not Quite Navy ink.

Flip the card stock around and Brayer Baja Breeze ink at the top of the card stock.

The Not Quite Navy was not dark enough and my Baja Breeze seahorse was not showing up well so I flip the card stock back around and Brayered Night of Navy ink over the Not Quite Navy ink. Now that is better. 🙂

Wiped the brayered ink from the embossed images with a cotton rag.

Removed the mask.

Outlined the Baroque Motifs flourish on the right side of the image using a Faber Castell black marker. I also outlined the Baja Breeze seahorse and the right side of the Creamy Carmel seahorse. Added White dots as bubbles with a White Gel Pen.

Assembled my card front. Used a Piercing tool to start my holes for my brads.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

I hope this tutorial has inspired you to try a multi-layered emboss resist scene.

SC186 Grapes – Tutorial

Hello Everyone! I’m just trying to make it through this week. Next week I am on vacation from my real job and my husband and I have rented a cabin in the Hocking Hills Region of Ohio for a few days at the beginning of the week and then on July 31st I’m off to sunny California for my first ever workshops. Let me tell you, I’M EXCITED!!!!

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Sun Ripened II & Baroque Motifis

Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Basic Black & Mellow Moss, Basic Grey Design paper

Ink: Stampin’ Up Really Rust, Mellow Moss, More Mustard & Apricot Appeal, Palette Noir Black

Accessories: Black Ribbon, Copper Brads, Clear embossing Powder, Heat Gun, Versamark Marker, Prismacolor Markers, Faber Castell Black fine point maker, Going Gray marker, Sponge, Cuttlebug Corner Die

Stamped grapes with Palette Noir Black ink on a 3″ x 4″ piece of Whisper White card stock. Note: I use Palette ink because it tends not to smear when using solvent based markers.

Colored the grapes with a Prismacolor Violet Mist Marker.

Colored the shadow parts of the graps with a Parma Violet marker.

Colored the leaf with a Mint Cream marker.

Colored the shadow parts of the leaf with a Light Olive Green marker.

Went over the entire leaf again with the Mint Cream marker to blend it some.

Colored the stem with an Eggshell marker and extended the stem some too.

Added some French Grey 30% marker to the stem.

Colored over the entire image with a Versamark Marker and then heat embossed the image with clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Sponged on Apricot Appeal ink.

Sponged on More Mustard ink being more heavy with it on the right side.

Sponged on Really Rust ink being heavy with it on the right side.

Added a layer of Basic Black card stock and Cuttlebug Corners.

Added a thick line of Going Gray to the right side of the grapes and leaf to create a shadow. Then added a very fine line along the right side of the grapes, leaf and under the branch.

Added highlights to the grapes and leaf with a white gel pen. (Love white gel pens!) Now that makes those grapes pop!

Sponge a bit of Really Rust ink on the left side of my two panels. Also dragged the card stock across the Really Rust ink pad at the left edge.

Stamped the flourish with Mellow Moss ink on the left side of the panels.

Assembled card and added two copper brads. Here it is finished measuring 5″ x 6.5″.
